Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy uses wavelengths of light to interact with body tissue to stimulate healing.  It can be used for a number of things such as the alleviation of pain, swelling or spasms, all of which are uncomfortable and hinder movement.

It is not painful nor does it produce heat which can damage tissue.  During treatment the laser light has the ability to pass through the skin (the dermis, epidermis, and the subcutaneous tissue or tissue fat under the skin) 2-5 centimeters.  Once through the skin in key areas the light will interact with cells, much like sunlight interacts with tree leaves in photosynthesis.  This process promotes healing by normalizing cell activity while decreasing pain and swelling.  It is therefore good for sports injuries, muscle strain and tightness.

At the same time, we use cold laser therapy much like accupuncture.  In fact it is called the modern day accupuncture without the needles.  Applying cold laser therapy to accpuncture points on the body helps stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's natural chemical, which deals with the relief of pain and stress.

For weight loss, acupuncture points are used to stabilize sugar levels, decrease hunger cravings and increase serotonin levels.

When smoking, nicotine releases endorphins which give the user a sense of relaxation. When smoking stops, the sudden drop in endorphin levels leads to withdrawal symptoms. Laser treatment helps reduce the craving and restores balance by stimulating acupuncture points.

You can see that for some clients the combination of hypnosis and cold laser therapy can provide a one-two punch in helping them reach their goals.

Is the treatment safe?

The laser light source is very safe. It does not produce heat and has bio-stimulating effects only. This is a far contrast from a surgical laser which produces heat and destroys tissue. The cold laser will only penetrate the tissue 10-15 mm, therefore there is no concern of the laser affecting internal organs.
